Recently, I have become very interested in designing for interactions. Animations specifically always seemed slightly superfluous to me. That is until I really dug into it and realized that I merely didn't understand the purpose. I could compare my disinterest in animation to the people that say "i don't like to wear makeup". They don't dislike makeup, but they know it takes time to apply makeup and its expensive to purchase makeup. I would guess 99% of the time, if they applied it correctly and bought the right products, they love the way they look with makeup and can't imagine not wearing it. Similarly. A lack of understanding, poor historical examples, and the cost associated with hiring a professional disuade most from digging into interaction design and applying it to their organization.
